There are months in my years that are gone before I realize I am in the midst. Not lost to sickness or mishap, although it is easy in these days of the virus for outside forces to be the blame. There was a poetry contest I wanted to enter, and today found I am only eighteen days over the deadline.
CHILDHOOD
Children learn from those around them.
Into bitterness, for the child knows only joy
Love and festivity should be for every girl and boy
Delight in exploring, learning, and discovering
Have few regrets even in disappointment, recovering
Over the years, the lessons learned from each milestone
One upon another to build a life lived finding sought unknowns
Days dawn, and the body is older, but the spirit's child never grows colder.
