TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

Ticking away our life clock, wasting of a minute
In space of time, thinking then you'll in future wish reboot
More of that waste as the sands of time are slowly shifting
Entering the path of least resistance, letting moments go drifting
Time relentlessly ticks away denting our egos, our souls, even flesh
Onward we stride, or plod, or drag our unwilling spirit without refresh
Selfishly thinking I have all the time in the world to accomplish my fate
Anything I want, tomorrow will be okay, it can be another day to wait
Yesterday I thought we would enjoy those retiring days when I could
Gladly put down my working routine and ready for traveling I would
Observe more greenery, more mountains, more seas, and more lakes
Overseeing trails not yet climbed, sunrises to see and sunset photo takes
Driving at times in perilous places causing accidents while seeming all right
Brought years of sorrow, ending bedridden, and enduring much with blight
Years lost first to much energy unleashed while the brain on drugs decreased
Eternity slowly opened, the brain returned, mobility needed the spirit released

Four years ago today at 10:11 pm, my husband Paul Harold Shene Jr. released my hand as his spirit returned to the Almighty. When we dated, we
talked about everything, at the end of his journey, the last year and a half he was muted by a trac in his neck but again I spent my hours with him, reading or talking or playing music to soothe his pains and give calm to his spirit.
We would have died in that accident that left blood on his brain where he slowly lost his cognitive abilities exasperated by a misdiagnosis and drugged to a Parkinson-like condition, detoxification for two years, some years of mild dementia, then back to clarity finding it was blood, and then the returning spiral to his eventual death.
The dozen years of being his twenty-four hour body guard, jailer, and caregiver my health worsened. His last gift to me was a year and a half of grieving that cleared out my body of all the accumulated poisons of the typical diet of convenience.
