Last Night
Last Night,
27.11.23 by Poet Sadia
Last night a family put their home for sale
A newly widowed mother of four
She and her family were by some to be rich,
That was not so, but rich in love for Allah
Never did they yearn for more
Instead, they were able to help the poor
Gilded was not her life, but one without strife
Her life was a devoted and beloved mother and wife
Thrust into widowhood by accidental death of her husband.
Lest we just weep for this family without funds. She is selling
all her possessions and her house, returning to the family home.
Son, in his early teens, already an apprentice giving up his schooling
To take on the burden of being the head and major family protector
Next son, not yet a teen but with pride, declined to take any money
If he had not earned it. The next son was willing to take and
Gave to his mother, as did the baby girl who was too young to feel
Humbled by shame only that help was given into her hand
Today was a lesson in sharing all the blessings upon each of us.
Love flows from one hand to another in helping in times of trouble
And across the divide of poor or standards seen by others as rich
Sent by Allah to see a need and to fulfill it because we, too, each have little by
The standards of the world, but do know that to have, we each must give.
Never allow pride to close your hand, spurning the less fortunate who feel
instantly a shame, not realizing in need there is no shame, just take and
Give to reposit when able, understanding that Allah does indeed provide
He expects His people, compassion for others, and their love of Him should
Take root in helping and caring for widows and orphans.
